Each winter in Nashville, the Porter Flea Holiday Market aims to make holiday shopping more celebration than chore, with dozens of local and regional vendors sharing unique, handmade gifts and a crew of local partners providing amenities — from cocktails to crafting tutorials — to make things festive and fun.

Set for Friday and Saturday, Dec. 8-9, 2017, this year’s installment of the long-running Nashville makers market is shaping up to be extra merry and bright, with new additions, new partners and a spacious new location — plus the world-class mix of vendors longtime attendees have come to expect.

What’s familiar: Once again, the Porter Flea Holiday Market kicks off Friday with a ticketed Preview Market, which includes early/intimate access to shopping and lots of extras, from complimentary drinks and snacks to bonus surprise swag. Saturday brings the full, free market (and the option to skip the lines with VIP Porter Passes.)

The 2017 mix of vendors is as vibrant and varied as ever, with home goods, jewelry, art, clothing and much more, made and sold by more than 150 hand-selected artists and artisans.

What’s new:

This year’s Holiday Flea moves to The Nashville Fairgrounds (625 Smith Avenue), into a heated, indoor space that offers lots of room for attendees to shop and mingle, with plenty of parking and space for some of Nashville’s best food trucks to serve up seasonal food and drink options.

At the new location, a crew of new partners will be on board to bring extra sparkle to the Porter Flea Holiday Market. Among them:

— West Elm LOCAL, sponsoring four booths and sharing the work of four hand-picked local artists

— Nashville’s WithCo, pouring fresh/locally made cocktail mixers for Preview Market attendees

— Scout’s Barbershop, offering winter hair care at their Braid + Beard Bar

— Skill Pop, hosting a mini version of one of their pop-up classes, teaching free hand-lettering

— Art School, sharing printmaking demos and bringing a peek at what they do during art parties/workshops and private lessons

They and others will join a mix of returning partners, including Nashville craft brewery Jackalope (who’ll have complimentary brews for Preview Market attendees and pours on sale Saturday) and ride-sharing service Lyft (who’ve offered a 20 percent discount just for Flea attendees, with code PFVIP17).

A full rundown of vendors and partners is available at porterflea.com, along with Preview Market tickets and Porter Passes, and lots more info about Porter Flea, named Best Artisan Market by the Nashville Scene, and now in its seventh year.

Nashville’s Porter Flea was launched in July 2011, with a focus on celebrating modern handmade goods. Now in its sixth year, the juried and curated, semi-annual market is led by Katie Vance and her husband, HollerDesign owner Matt Alexander, who continue an emphasis on the handmade art and design movement, local businesses and community building. Along with connecting hundreds of local/regional makers with tens of thousands of shoppers, Porter Flea has earned consistent press praise, including being named Best Artisan Market by the Nashville Scene in 2012, and appearing in Southern Living, Garden & Gun, Native, Forbes Travel Guide, StyleBlueprint and other publications.
