Featuring modern handmade goods from the area’s most talented designers, Porter Flea returns to East Nashville this summer with a new market concept—AirCraft—inspired by the wide open spaces and unique aspects of the Cornelia Fort AirCraft takes off with an exclusive (21+) Preview Market in the Cornelia Fort hangars from 5pm to 8pm on Friday night, May 31st. Preview Market ticketholders will get first dibs on this summer’s hottest items and the opportunity to meet with vendors in a smaller setting while enjoying complimentary craft beer from Fat Bottom Brewing; tasty treats from The Bloomy Rind, Porter Road Butcher, and Sweet Betweens; DJ sets by The Groove and former WRVU DJ Outtheother; and other Preview night surprises. The adventure continues Saturday, June 1st, from 10am to 5pm with a free admission artisan market showcasing over 80 of the region’s best designers of modern handmade apparel and accessories, home goods, furniture, jewelry, prints, posters, and paper goods — all supported by an ace DJ and a full squadron of food trucks. Cornelia Fort’s open airplane hangars, plentiful parking, secure bike storage, and scenic greenway connections promise to make this the most enjoyable and rewarding Porter Flea experience yet. Walk Bike Nashville and Rush Bicycle Messengers will be leading group bike rides to AirCraft, and Metro Parks Police will provide traffic direction and security.
Porter Flea was named Best Artisan Market by the Nashville Scene in 2012. The first Porter Flea was held in July, 2011, in East Nashville, and the December 2012 market attracted over 5,000 people to Marathon Music Works. Organized by Jessica Maloan, Brent Elrod, and Katie Vance, the semi-annual event has received praise from the Nashville Scene, The City Paper, Southern Living, NATIVE, StyleBlueprint, Etsy, and several local bloggers.
